OUR HISTORY
Dr. John G. Paty, Jr. and Dr. Charles W. Sienknecht first brought rheumatology subspecialty care to this region when they opened this practice in 1975 at the Doctor's Building on McCallie Avenue in Chattanooga. With the addition of Dr. J. Eugene Huffstutter in 1984, the practice continued to grow and the name was changed to Arthritis Associates to best reflect the mission of the group to serve the future rheumatology needs of the Chattanooga area. The rheumatologists in our group served on the clinical staff of the UT College of Medicine for several years helping to provide teaching and training for future rheumatologists and were the sole physicians staffing the rheumatology clinics (including both adult and pediatric clinics) at Erlanger Medical Center.
Over the years the practice has continued to grow and seen many changes. In 1985 the practiced moved to Erlanger Medical Center and then in 1995 we made the move to Memorial Medical Plaza where we practiced for 10 years. The group then built our own building in the Hixson area which opened in 2006. Since this time Dr. Elizabeth Simpson, who trained with our physicians at Erlanger, joined our provider staff in 2009. Dr. Alan Elliott, who grew up in Hixson, also joined our provider team in 2014 after practicing seven years in Charlotte, North Carolina.
We look forward to many more years serving our patients' needs in this exciting time in rheumatology With the background of a strong history and reliable experience, we also have a firm commitment to the future as new knowledge, medications and treatment options become available to our patients.
